Owner of Sutherland Horses, Bridgette is an experienced dressage rider and coach specialising in rider position and young horse training.
Bridgette became passionate about teaching and schooling horses for clients in 2012 when she started her core business, Sutherland Horses. Yet riding has been her lifestyle since she was just 8 years old. Bridgette is committed to all aspects of the equestrian industry, investing her time as a high level dressage rider, nationally accredited coach, business owner and Equine Studies TAFE (Technical and Further Education) teacher.
“I worked hard and bought my first warmblood foal when I was 16 with my own money. I still own this horse and we are about to ride our first Official Pri St-Georges FEI Dressage test.”
Although Bridgette’s main focus is dressage riding and coaching, she has experience and appreciation for all types of horses and disciplines. The ‘Sutherland Squad’ makes up the great team of horses and riders, ranging from young horses to experienced schoolmasters.
Her love for dressage grew after tuition from olympian, Mary Hanna, in 2014. Along with Peter Fischer, she trains with these experienced coaches to “reach the top level of FEI dressage and to build a business, which advocates horse welfare and riders’ best performance on and off the horse.”
Along with her equine passion, Bridgette values keeping fit to ride – whether it be cardio fitness, strength training, Pilates, boxing or exploring ways to better her competition mindset.
Her great interest in fitness, alongside equine coaching and riding has allowed Bridgette to teach techniques that improve the rider’s balance and strength on a horse by doing basic position movements.
